Government:
The Iroquois had a council that made all decisions together. The council was made up of one chief from every family. The Iroquois had a three level system of government, the town or municiple, tribal or provincial, and confederacy or federal. Each extended family or clan had two leaders, the civil chief and the military chief. The civil chief directed all normal activities, and the military chief settled conflicts with other groups. These chiefs were chosen by the women and the elders of the clan, and they had the right to remove the chiefs that were not fit to power. The iroquois lived in a democracy and followed the opinion of the majority.
